Arctic ship-to-ship transfer of LNG

The main objective of the BW Gas initiative is develop an export LNG/LPG solution involving ship to ship transfer of gas in Russian territorial waters. At present it is assumed that a central part of the work will be to develop, verify and validate joint Norwegian – Russian operational guidelines for such operations in Arctic waters.

The project is based on a new transport concept for export of different types of wet gas and condensate. The total export system will include LNG/LPG liquefying plants, offshore export terminal, specially designed vessels with icebreaking capability and an offshore lightering operation to transfer gas/condensate from the dedicated ice breaking gas carriers to large LNG/LPG vessels designed for year around operation in the North Atlantic.
