The Bergesen name has been connected to shipping since early in the 19th century, when Berge Bergesen established a business in Stavanger. Bergesen d.y. ASA was founded in 1935 by his great grandson, Sigval Bergesen d.y. The company prospered to become one of the world's leading and most solid shipping companies.
